13 weeks to 13.1: Week 6 Recap

Hey, friends! Sorry I'm late with my post this week. I haven't fallen off on my training. I did have a pretty crazy week, though, for a few reasons:

  • Last week I got not one, but TWO part-time jobs with production companies! Go me! Hopefully these will beef up my resume with the Hollywood experience I need to get a full-time gig one of these days.
  • It was Jessie's last day in L.A. on Thursdayy and we lived it up with with a picnic and some museum-ing at the Getty Center, and dessert in Westwood at Diddy Riese (seriously - check out this deliciousness). SUPER fun! But on that day, I actually forgot about my run until after the sun had gone done. oops!
  • Paul and I had planned on a late night workout at the gym on Sunday night for my long run, but Paul got a migraine :(. He was able to stop it before it got too bad, but he still wasn't feeling the workout. Since we use the UCLA gym (and I go as his guest), I couldn't go by myself.
So, now that the excuses are out of the way, here's what my mixed up week looked like:
Monday: Stretch and Strengthen (50 minute pilates workout on Netflix. Stuck with the intermediate)
Tuesday: 4 mile run (4.04 miles - 39:42, 9:49 pace)
Wednesday: 2 mile run or cross train (no workout - I worked until 7:30 on my first day with one of my jobs!)
Thursday: 4 mile run (no workout - I was having too much fun with Jessie!)
Friday: Rest (4.04 miles to makeup for Thursday - 41:05, 10:09 pace)
Saturday: 40 minute cross train (skipped it)
Sunday: 6 mile run (40 minute cross train with lots of strength training to make up for Saturday)
Monday: Stretch and strengthen (30 minutes pilates and yoga video in the morning, made up my 6 mile run that evening at the gym - 58:10, 9:41 pace)

So, despite all the craziness, the only workout I missed was the 2 mile run on Wednesday. Also, check out my time on the long run! It felt awesome. I set the treadmill to 6.2 mph (a (9:40 pace) and just cruised. I even bumped it up (and up, and up!) during the last half mile to finish at about a 9 minute pace! Woohoo!

The treadmill and all the distractions of the gym were a nice change this week. Running inside makes me sweat even more than usual, though. When I finished, I was a sweaty, sweaty beast. Paul brought me a towel to wipe down my machine after the workout and he said,
"You're sweaty. and not in the cute, glowing way."
He was right, too. My shirt was soaked. Of course, about 3 seconds after that we ran into one of Paul's classmates and Paul had to introduce me. I make such a lovely first impression. Sorry for the sweaty handshake, Raphael!

In other news:

NEW SHOES!!!

Aren't they clean and shiny? They were an early birthday present from my parents. Thanks, Mom and Dad!. They are awesome (the shoes are pretty awesome, too).

You know what else is awesome? Running stores that know their stuff. I went to Top to Top here in Los Angeles. They had me try on a bunch of different shoes, watched me walk in them, and listened to everything I said. I bought a pair of Asics, and I thought they were great, but after two runs in them (a total of 10 miles) they just weren't right. I was even experiencing a little pain in my toes and on the balls of my feet. So I took them back, and they let me return them, no problem. Now that's a running store.

I thought the Asics were too big, but it turns out they were too small (good thing they have professionals there!). I have taken the new ones (a pair of Sauconys in a half size larger) on two runs so far (4 miles and 2 miles) and they feel great! Also, they're my favorite color: green! What a fantastic birthday present :).

I'll be running in these babies in a 5k race in Minneapolis TOMORROW MORNING!

Have a great Thanksgiving, everyone!

P.S. I have been blogging for one whole year! Woot!
